Marion Institute

OCTOBER 26-28 2012 │ NEW BEDFORD, MA

A SOLUTIONS BASED gathering that brings together a diverse audience to create deep and positive change in their communities.  Join the movement.

Volunteer

Due to overwhelming response to our call for volunteers, we are no longer accepting volunteer applications. Thank you for your interest.  We hope to see you at the conference!

_______________________________________________________________________________________-

Volunteering at Connecting for Change is a wonderful and economical way to experience the conference as well as a tremendous opportunity to help a great cause. We will give you a one-day pass in exchange for your full-day volunteer shift, and with your $20 volunteer fee you will receive lunches for both days and this t-shirt!

If you have any questions about volunteering, please feel free to email them to glenn@marioninstitute.org or call 508.748.0816.

Below is a summary of the volunteer positions that we need to fill. Please review and keep in mind while filling out the volunteer form above. Thank you.

Most volunteers will be expected to fill multiple roles.

Parking/Outdoor Activities

  • Parking coordinators will help ensure that all attendees know where to park and how to get to the rest of the conference from the parking locations.
  • There will be many ongoing outdoor activities throughout the conference, volunteers will lend support to these activities.
  • Due to the change in location from UMD to Downtown NB we will need people stationed at designated points outdoors during the morning, breaks and lunchtime.

Circulation/Information

  • Direct attendees to workshops and other activities, rooms and buildings.
  • Answer questions about the program and events.

Registration and MI Booth

  • Assist Marion Institute staff in the registration process.
  • Make sure all attendees have the proper badges and information.

Keynote Sessions

  • Direct attendees into the keynote session when they begin and check badges for admittance.
  • Keep noise levels down [make sure doors do not slam].
  • Answer questions [much like an usher].

Workshops

  • Help presenters trouble shoot and make sure they have what they need.
  • Direct attendees to the correct room and check badges for admittance.
  • In some cases pass a microphone for Q&A.
  • Act as the point person for the workshop and trouble shoot if problems arise, (e.g. if seating needs to be re-arranged at the last minute, speaker needs water for the workshop, quickly find the appropriate person if IT problems arise, etc).

Youth Initiative

  • Youth Initiative volunteers should be outgoing and comfortable working with high school students. We ask that Youth Initiative volunteers also be flexible, as activities may change quickly.

IT Tech Support

  • Volunteers need to be familiar with computers and projection systems. They will act as our onsite technical support team.

Food Tables/Lunch

  • Keep breakfast and snack tables stocked with food and beverages.
  • Keep the lunch crowd, lines and table orderly and moving especially when lunch starts, and helping out with recycling and composting (including collecting plates and clearing plates of organic matter for composting).
  • May need to help with the serving of the food and clean up.

Recycling/Composting (Moderate to Heavy Lifting)

  • In our effort to “walk the walk” BBB composts and recycles as much of the waste from the conference as possible. To accomplish this, we need a team of dedicated volunteers to make sure everything ends up in the right places.

Exhibition (Moderate to Heavy Lifting)

  • Volunteers will help our exhibitors set up their tables and displays. Only Friday morning and Sunday evening.

Farmers Market (Moderate to Heavy Lifting)

  • Volunteers will help local farmers set up their tables, tents and produce and assist the farmers as needed throughout the day.
